Bring wife after my green card

Hi,

I plan to get married in September this year. If my green card is approved before the marriage, how can I bring my wife to the U.S.? Is there any special visa for her to apply? Does she have to stay in her home country until her green card is approved?

Thanks.

If your wife is not in the US before you get your green card, you can be sure she won't be coming here anytime soon. You will have to file a follow to join and it usually takes about 2-3 years for approval.

Best to get her to the US before your approval. Easiest way is H4.

Also, search the archives, you will get more information.

needgc123,
Yes, I am the one who posted the question on how to bring wife during AOS. This morning I saw wac02115xxxx got approved. My number is wac02281xxxx. Now I started to worry about how to bring wife after my green card approval, since I might get married in September.

140_takes_4ever,
I believe that your information is correct. For a US citizen, it only takes about 4 months to bring one's spouse. However, it seems to take many years to bring Permanent Resident's spouse to the states. I'd better hurry to get married.

Thank you two for the good advice.
