I heard this morning from Barbara Boxer's office. I will call them back for more information, but in the initial message that I received, I was told that the CSC has told Boxer's office that the processing dates for I485 applications will continue to move forward over the next few months.

Not sure that I believe it, but it gives me new material for the next letter if it doesn't come true. In that sense, the person who contacted me must know the risk that he makes saying something like that as a government official... it would be very embarrassing to them...

I am not sure if INS is ever embarassed by being proved wrong in something they attested as the truth a few days/months/years prior. They have a very convinient excuse which is "We make no excuses due to security concerns".

So I doubt we can hold them to their word once they raise the "S" topic. All we can do is put more and more pressure on them, and hope they get tired of us and feel it is less effort to adjudicate our cases as compared to keep it pending.

Looks logical compared to the statemnet that the backlogs will be brought to 6 months.
 
Who's embarrassed

I agree, I'm not sure that the INS gets embarrassed either (i've been told that they are aware that they've gone back on claims at the CSC).

That said, I think it's possible for a Senator to feel a bit uncomfortable about making such a statement (through her representative) and then not really making any good on it...

Of course it's a vague statement. Even though we've been waiting for a long time, you could argue that the queue has moved forward (it hasn't moved backward...).

But, it's a rhetorical way in. Questions that can be legitimately asked by me are how fast, do they think that the current "speed up" matches a) what they told me and b) something that approximates service for the 6.2 million customers that they have. It's all about positioning I guess. Now, I have to wait an appropriate length of time and then use that as a means to personalise and keep pressing.
