Both need to apply for waivers?

Hi everybody,

I am planning to come to the US as a postdoc on a J1 visa, and bring my husband and my son on J2. Later, to get H1B or if one of us is selected in the DV Lottery, do we both need to apply for waivers, separately? What about my 6-year-old son, what his status would be?

Only you have to apply for a waiver. Once you get the waiver it will include your son and husband.
Your son and husband don't have to apply for a waiver separately.

Considering I am leaving for the US in Feb on J-1, would it be a good time now to apply in the DV Lottery? What happens if I or my husband are selected? Do we have to get the waiver prior to apply?
