It depends
If your file is in boston local office, then you can do it there on the same day, otherwise you have to send it to VSC. This is what I was told on Feb. 28 2003. My office is 7 mins walk to JFK building, so I went there 30 mins before it's normal close time -- noon. It took me 20 mins or so to speak to an officer. She use the computer to check where my file is and found out it's in VSC, so I send it to VSC the following Monday by Fedex.
If it's not too much a trouble for you, you can go to JFK first and take chance. Don't go there early, it's always LONG LONG lines. it's not worth it to wait 2+ hours to ask just a simple question.
