I am one among those GC newbies who is still trying to find out the difference of pre and post GC life.

What do you think about the ideal salary range a software professional (like many of us) should be drawing, if he/she is a gc holder.
Can anybody out there in New England/Boston area give some opinion..??

I know this is not a clear cut question...but would still value your opinions.

thanks

GC/non GC don't decide Salary range.. Its your respective skills and negotiations decides it. After GC (or even after getting EAD), you can negotiate with more employers as sponsering restriction is gone. But that doesn't automatically convert in "high salary".
My personal experience along with many friends, prior/after GC doesn't affected salary much but it affected other decesions like buying home etc.

For boston area the median salaries are as follows from the DOL website
Computer programmer: 71,200
Comp. info sceintists: 102,080
Computer soft. engineers(applications): 86,230
Computer soft. engineers(systems): 86,040

GC/noGC makes no difference. Get at leat 5yrs. exp. and good skills and you should be equal to or greater than the salaries given above.Bargain hard without feeling shy!

Salaries will be usually in a range. The salary you get depends on your skillset, companies you worked, companies you apply, negotiating skills etc. If your skillset is hot and you do pretty good at interview and if it is a big company, then you can get the best rate (top of the range). But the competition (in the interviews) will be very high.
Smaller companies usually tend to pay at the bottom of the range , but if they like you strongly, then they will go upto middle of the range. Similarly if the company is big and they like you, but your exprience is not long enough (> 10 years) , then you may get middle of the range salary.
I think that Boston area salaries will be in the range of 75K to 100K for mid level / senior software engineers.
