I am Canadian Citizen and have been offered a job as management consultant while in the US (Freeport Texas) and I was wondering if I could just go to the nearest Texas Mexico border an apply for TN Status , so that I do not have to travel all the way to the Canada US border. Which borders are recomended nearby. Thanks for your help

I find the guys at San Ysidro are poorly trained and have a culture that takes pleasure from pushing people around and denying applications.

For example, two months after the stay extension was raised to 3 years they didn't know about it. Twice they have told me that I wasn't allowed to make applications that are explicitly allowed for in the federal code and you really have to fight with them to consult their supervisors. Peace Arch between Van and Seattle is my favorite but I've also heard good things about Buffalo.

If you book far enough in advance Southwest has super super cheap flights to Seattle.

Yes you can apply at the US/Mexican border. Many people do this, though you may need to call them up to find out when their NAFTA rep is working. I don't believe they are as frequent as they are on the US/Canadian POEs.

Downside is there's always a possibility of being rejected, denied or whatever and people have stated theoretically you then could be stuck on the other side of the border.

I have heard that for years, but don't think I've actually heard a case where that actually happended. So I wouldn't worry too much about it, but just keep it in mind to bring contacts numbers and such in case of a bad situation like that.

You're closesest border would be Brownsville/Matamors...
