Border Post to update I-94

Has anybody ever gone to border post (mexico/canada) to update I-94 or for any other purposes. I am thinking about going to mexico border to update I-94. Do you need a visa even if you are just going to the border post to update I-94? Can you just go to the border post office and reques them to update I-94?
