Border official did not remove I-94

Hello all,

My wife and I are on Work Permits in Toronto, Canada. Last week, we drove over to Corning, NY on our B1B2 Visas. At the border they clipped the I-94s to our Passports. We stayed with our cousin for 3 days and drove back to Toronto.

On the way back, the border official, did not even look at our Passports, and let us in after asking us what our status was in Canada and what sort of job we have. Now, from a friend, I find that we have to return the I-94 as proof of exiting the USA. Can someone tell me what's to be done in this situation? I personally feel, the border official should have asked us for the I-94.

Thanks,
Nish

not for a short motor trip from Canada. But you may mail the I-94 (of course keeping a copy) with a cover letter to nearest US consulate.

there is some information on the http://travel.state.gov/

Thank you. The two of us are visiting the US again this month. Just a couple of days, but we are going via air, and hopefully, this time, at the airport, they will remove it when we return. So I am guessing it will be alright. Our I94s haven't expired yet and are valid for another 5 months.
