Hi,
My passport has an incorrect birthplace and was not a big issue till i was asked to produce my birth certificate for I-485 filing. I now have a birth certificate from the correct city/place where i was born, which contradicts the information in my passport.
How can i make that change into my passport. I am in the IL area and is there a provision to make this change in the Indian Embassy here in IL? Any information will be appreciated very much.
Thanks and have a good one,

YEs you can do it and sinc eyou are in IL, you have to go through CG Chicago office.

check this site:
http://chicago.indianconsulate.com/

Call the consulate general chicago office and see what they have to say.

I had my name wrongly displayed as my last name in the passport. To rectify I had to place advt in a local paper and a paper in india. Next week I will be mailing my passport to make the name change in my passport to reflect the correct fname, mname and lname.

kdivekar,

I contacted consulate in chicago. They said they dont do it here. But, they can do it here if I have birth certificate and letter from district magistrate.

My problem is, instead of my birth place, my district name was entered in the passport. Does it matter? Any input is appreciated.

Ask chicago CG office if a notarized affidavit of birth signed by each of your parents would work along with your original birth certificate? I am sure they will say yes....

If they say yes, then get your parents to write up an affidavit of birth and get it notarized by a lawyer in india on Rs 20 paper. This is what I did. I am attaching a affidavit tempplate that I used.

If chicago says no to affidavit then get a letter from magistrate in india.

All the best!

Kdivekar,

What is the problem if district name mentioned in place of birth. Because in this situation, actual birth place comes under the mentioned district. Is it correct?

In simple English you are correct but may not be true for BCIS/ INS purposes. Hence you will have to follow the procedures laid down by CG Chicago. As I suggested,,,check with CG Chicago if they approve of the route i recommended else follow their route.
