Birth Certificate

Dear Friends,

I am here on L1 A from my company and got married to a local US Citizen last month.

My husband is in City A and I am in City B. I used to live in City A for a year till Dec 2002 when my job tranferred me to City B . I cannot move back to join my husband immediately because my legal right to live in this country is linked to L1 A issued by my company. So I plan to apply for status adjustment and then quit my company.

I am now applying I 485 to adjust my status and wanted to know the following

a) I donot have a birth certificate. What is the other secondary evidence that I can use.

b) Where do I file the form. City A or B. My fear is that If i file it in City B, INS may think i am not interested to stay with my husband and reject my application.

Any help with be highly appreciated.

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge , all you need is an affidevit from your parent or blood relative who was an adult when you were born.
This usually means that they would have to get a document signed by a notary stating that you are who you claim you and were born on a give date and time and that it is to the best of their knowledge are to best of their knowledge

Hope this helps

Along with the affidavit you will also need a letter from the government authority responsible for registering births at the city where you were born. The letter should state that they do not have a record of your birth and should have your name and your parents names.
