I was reading in some of the old threads that I will need my birth certificate for the interview. I do not have any birth certificate. Will my passport work as proof of dob?

passport may not work

soccer101: I had a similar situation, needed to correct the dob on gc. The officer suggested I reuqest correction by providing a birth certificate for correct dob. I was asked proof of dob other than the passport. So perhaps passport alone "may" not be sufficient for interview.

Few things you may want to check.
- Affidavits by 2 people (not your parents) who swear by your dob.
- All the school certificates that states your date of birth.
- Get a letter from your registrar's office from your place of birth that they do not have a record for you.

If you are from India, visit the Indian consulate website that covers your state of resident and file an application for miscellaenous services (check birth certificate), I think (not 100% sure) they issue you a birth certificate based on your passport. The fee is $20 for this service + fee for postage.

correction: not sure if it both affidavit have to be from relatives... another post by sg_orl (http://boards.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?p=1148385#post1148385) indicates that parent's affidavits are ok..

This reminds me...

This reminds me of a story that was in the paper a few years ago.

This old guy was applying for social security. He had no birth certificate but had to prove his age. He went to the graveyard and brought his mother's tombstone to the social security office - with her date of death engraved in it. Since she died more than 65 years before, he had to be at least that old.

He probably couldn't prove that she was his mother, but since he went to the touble, they decided to believe him.

BTW, I got a certificate from the Indian embassy. It states that based on the passport your date of birth is <mmm dd, yyyy). It also states that birth registrations were not mandatory before 1969. I am impressed by the express service. Got my passport & certificate within 8 days after sending the application form along with passport.
