Birth certificate problem

Any advise/suggestion will help.

I did not have a birth certificate, asked my aging/aling parents to get one. They got one from the municipal corp.

I asked them to mail me a zerox copy of the same. Now that Iam on the verge of filing I-485, I asked them to courier me the original and it got lost in transit.

If I attach the xeroz to the I-485 form and Iam called 4 an interview later then if I dont have the exact original, I will be in a fix.

So basically what does one do if he/she does nt have a birth certificate.

Yes I understand your situation. YOu send a xerox copy of your birth certificate when you are filing 485 and when they start adjudicating your case they might send an RFE asking for your original birth certificate. By that time you can get one duplicate from the corporation where your parents got.

Another option is that
Get an affidavit from your mother and two relatives (either motherside or fatherside) provided you were born before 1970. But you would have to get the letter from the corporation saying that your birth record is not available with them. This option will be more tough. Think over it.

I got my birth certifcate from the corporation and they took almost 7 months inspite of my sister following the process in my hometown.

Good luck
