birth certificate issues

We are in the process of applying for I-485.

Both my husband and myself donot have our original birth certificates or letters from the municipality. Is it enough if we produce affidavits of people familiar with the birth confirming the date of birth.

Would appreciate as much info on this regard.

Has anyone had any problems giving only the affidavits. And if not , are we required to produce 2 affidavits for every individual applying.

thanks in advance.

1) Get 2 affidavits for each of you, one from father/mother and another from close relative who is older than you.
2) Get non-availability of birth certificate from local Municipality (this is important).

thanks abhi123.

1. the 2 affidavits are ready for submission.

2. but was not sure if we need the non-availability letters from the municipality.

I was wondering if anyone here managed with the affidavits only and no letter from municipality. I believe getting the non-availability certificate is not very simple as we now are here and have to bother our relatives back there to do the job for us.

however - i heard a few of them have applied only with the affidavits - wanted to make sure if it worked the same for anone else in here.

thanks - anyways

BC mess

My bc is a big mess.

My birth is registered in the panchayat records but no bc is issued and there is no name in the birth register. If thats not enough the registered birth date is different from the dob in pp. So theres no point in getting them to issue a useful bc and I can very well forget about a non-availability certificate as well.

Even if everything was all right I dont have anyone back home to really chase all this down.

I submitted 4 affidavits(2 from parents and 1 each from maternal and paternal uncles) along with my 485 application.

I have not heard back from BCIS yet. My attorney says that we will cross the bridge when we come to it. I really hope there is a bridge at all!!!

Birth Certificate

I do not have any official Indian Birth Certificate . Please advice/share your experience regarding alternate documents which can be used as Birth Certificate for Green Card processing. My family in India live 1000 miles from where I was born, so it is not easy to chase officials at the place of my birth about my birth record. Is anyone able to clear I-485 stage with affadavits just from family members?

Many people got approvals with their affidavits. Only issue is that USCIS can ask for non-availability certificate for the local authority where you were born.

If you have school certificate that mentions your DOB or "unoffical" birth certificate (as you mentioned) you can provide them as secondary proofs too.
