Hello,
My other question is this: my current birth certificate is a duplicate of the old one, however it looks very different and there is a slight difference (a couple of letters) in spelling of the names. It is issued by the state archives, but they used a new spelling system and new format. Will UCSIC compare my current copy (when I file a petition for my parents) with the old one filed long time ago with the Green card application? I am a US citizen. Thank you all in advance!

Which spelling have you been using throughout your life, the old or new spelling?

Is the difference due to how they translated it into English?

No, it's in the original language in my parents names. Two changes in the spelling on the duplicate BC. Does not affect the translation into English. But the format is totally different too from the one I sent for GC. It's an official document from the Civil Registry, it's just before they handwrote everything and now it is all typed on a nice paper. My original certificate has been misplaced.

Maybe you can get them to reissue a certificate with the correct spelling, if you give them enough evidence of the original spelling on various documents such as old passports and school records, and a copy of the original which has the spelling you want. It looks like it was their mistake to change the spelling when they copied the handwritten information into the typed/computerized format.
