Birth Cert Documents/Affidavit question

Next week I will be taking the oath to become a citizen. Then I will apply immediately for my wife's green card. The problem is her birth certificate does not have her name. I have been told that you can submit an affidavit from close relatives that they know of her birth and submit them to accompany the papers. My question is does the affidavit have to be in original to be submitted to them? I could have them fax/or scan and email me a copy that I can submit next week. It will save time in waiting for the original to come in the mail.
Thanks.

If case of affidavits, originals must be submitted. Photocopies of affidavits wont be accepted and you will definitely get an RFE asking for the originals.
