Biometrics for my wife ..

Guys and gals,

My saga at TSC continues. Last week I had gotten an email about an RFE being issued for my wifes 485 application. Today I received a written notice in the mail stating that they need to capture my wife biometrics. The notice requests her to show up at the office and get it done. I am just trying to go through the forums to find out what exactly this is. If any of you have any idea please let me know.

After reading some postings on the forums I have figured out that for some FPs the code is 3 and they have to get FPs and biometrics. Now how in the world was I supposed to know that. The office took the original FP notice so I am not sure if my wifes FP notice was a code 3. I do remember that it did not mention anything about biometrics. My biggest fear now is that once they receive my wifes biometrics, they will then send me an RFE for my biometric. All this is going to add several months to the process if I am lucky and maybe even a year if I am unlucky ..

Sometimes I get the feeling that TSC has decided to use every possible policy on my case. Truly frustrated at this point ..

Don't worry, your case moving in right direction

I hope you will also get Biometrics notice may be in day or two.

Biometrics is : ASC takes dighital signature, digital photo and right index finger print. This process will eliminate PP Stamping. After 485 approval , card will be ordered directly.

lately new FP are taking with code 3 (Finger Print + Biometrics)

Thanks

nag74,

Thanks for your input. My only worry is that I am the primary applicant and they should have given me the notice at the same time to. This notice is the result of an RFE on my wifes case. There is no RFE on my case yet. It seems like they have put aside my case after issuing the RFE for my wifes case. I say this because before the RFE there were several LUD changes on my approved 140 and there have been none since the RFE. Once they get my wifes biometric info then they will issue me an RFE for mine. The sad part is that her appointment is scheduled a month and a half from today. I hope she can go in early and get this stupid thing done.

The only other thing I can think of is that they might have taken my picture and signature (biometric) at the time of FP. I was just so glad to get the FP out of the way that I really don't remember if they did. Anyway only time will tell.

CODE 3 is standard now ??

I think thye have made this CODE 3 thing a standard nowadays. Your post made me to look at mine and my spouse's FP notice (scheduled for April 12) and both has CODE3.
So now I dont know, whether the clerk will take both biometrics and FP or should I tell him "SIR, Please take my Biometrics since it is CODE 3"..

On mine and my wife's fingerprint notices also we have code 3 which is scheduled for May 3.

I guess it is standard procedure now

Guys,

Going by the replies so far it seems as if code 3 is now standard. If this is the case then shouldn't the FP service center know that FP + bio is required for code 3. Am I supposed to know everything. My lawyers didn't tell me anything either. The hilarious part is that this biometrics thing is supposed to speed up the process. It sure isn't doing it in my case.

Anyway, I will keep everyone posted. My wife will try and get this done this saturday afternoon and we will keep trying till they take us early. There is no way I am going to wait another month for this stupid thing.

We had code 3 but no biometrics..

Just to share our experience......we had code 3 in our FP notice and since I was aware of what it means (FP + digital photo etc etc), I asked the person to take our photos showing him the "CODE 3". But he said it's not required....??

Then I asked again saying that my lawyer had specifically told me about the photo and then he checked with his supervisor who said "No, we don't take photos with this form (485)."

They were taking digital pictures and digital signature of other people in the center so they had the infrastructure. But for both of us they just took plain and simple 10 finger prints.....

Now, I didn't know if there was anything else we could do........so I guess it depends on the ASC (which in our case was Tampa, FL).

Or better still..............we crossed our fingers and left it in God's hands......if and when they ask us to go back and do BIO..........we'll have no choice but to take another day off........

Chimi...

Here is our early FP experience

I received the USCIS Finger Print Notification by mail on 12 March 2005
scheduled for 7 April 2005, 1pm, for me and my spouse.
To expedite the process we tried two times and second time we were successful in doing early FP, since there were very few people waiting in line we were allowed to do early FP on Saturday the 19 March 2005 at ASC USCIS ORLANDO.
I asked the lady to look at code 3 , then she talked to the manager, later manager checked FP's for 10 fingers and Oked them, and then Photo signature and Index Finger. Same thing happened in my spouse case, that she asked them to look at code 3.
So in our case Application Support Center took our Finger Print ( all 10 fingers ) as well as Biometrics ( Photo, Signature and Index Finger).

Lets see what happens

The bottom line is that USCIS comes up with all these stupid new changes that very few people in the district offices are aware of. I honestly had no idea of the code 3 on the FP and neither did the guy who took my FP. If I had known, I would have pointed it out. It will not surprise me if they process my wifes case with the biometrics and mine without it. Anything is possible. The other possibility is that my notice is on the way. Ultimately there is no point in guessing. This process shall take its own time.

Biometrics

Saras76,

I went through a similiar situation. First, my wife and I received notices for FP (with code 1) on the same day asking us to appear on Feb 8th. Since my wife was in India at that time, only I did the FP and the officer at the ASC told me that my wife can appear for FP within 93 days from the notice date (I requested her to put her initials on my wife's FP notice though).

My wife received a Biometrics (code 3) notice about 10 days ago. She came back from India a week ago. She took both FP and Biometrics notice and they said they will do the Biometrics and FP together. I asked them why I didn't receive Biometrics. They said it is a new standard USCIS introduced in the past couple of weeks or so and I should also expect to get one. So after having completed her Biometrics and FP, I went home, checked my mailbox, I received a notice from USCIS. I thought it was the Biometrics notice for me; but to my surprise I received my I485 approval notice asking me to make an infopass appoinment to get the PP stamping done :).

So don't worry; take it easy. You would get your approval soon!

We just received our FP notices (code 3) yesterday, and it clearly mentions biometrics. Specifically, "to process your application, the USCIS must capture your Biometrics". The document is still called " Fingerprint Notification".

Its a new process

Mickey_32,

Our FP notices were issued in Dec 2004. I am certain now that they were just FP notices and did not mention anything about biometrics. They simply said that we needed to have our FPs taken. I think USCIS has now started to issue mostly code 3 FP notices.

My lawyer is of the opinion that they might have either lost my wifes initial FPs or might have sent a duplicate notice by mistake. Either way she is going to get it done soon. The Biometric notice was issued along with an RFE that my lawyer received yesterday. The RFE is for proof of legal status. We are going to send I-20s, I-94s etc. Hopefully this mess will be sorted out in the next few months.

cheers,

saras
