Bingaman Amendment - The Pathetic Contrast B/w Illegals vs. Skilled Legals

I guess now that the Bingaman amendment caps the total EB to 650,000, it implies that primary applicants are capped at 215,000 (assuming a 1:2 ratio of primary and rest of the family, which has been historically the case).

So, the Senate was really really concerned about keeping out 435,000 skilled legal aliens (doctors, engineers, lawyers, nurses, MBAs included), while handing out GCs to 11 Million unskilled illegal aliens.

And oh, don't forget the per country limits that are back. So, a rest-of-the-world cabbie gets a first crack from the unused demand from his country, whereas an Indian or Chinese PhD/MS/MBA/BS waits.

How much more pathetic can this situation get.

Well, Indians and Chinese are not the only ones needed in the USA. Cabbies are needed as well... This is typical condescension seen on this board and IV.

Why should congress only cater to "skilled people" ? In fact I would argue that skilled immigration increase is worse since it affects professional service jobs that most Americans hold. The senate and corporate guys want to make American/LPR skilled workers work at low cost... Basically they are showing the American skilled worker the middle finger and they have the gall to say "it is in the interest of the American people".

How many desi software companies here hire American workers who are not of India/Chinese origin ?

Why not just divide the US and say well 5 west coast states are reserved for skilled India immigrants. Call it West India.

you have to know this number is per year. personally, i think it is pretty hight already although i need this number dearly.

The law makers should make the GC for skilled people more and more difficult....especially for Indians so that we(indians) can all go home (India) sooner and we never regret our decision as we will be forced to go to India....and of course we will hate the American dream.....LONG LIVE THE 10 YEAR PROCESSING TIME FOR GREEN CARD!
