Between N-400 Filing and Interview

As we all understand, it takes quite a long while between the time BCIS receives your N-400 and the time you are scheduled for an interview.

Then, what does BCIS do with your application during this timeframe? Only for the FBI check? Or, just have your document sitting in their place without doing anything till the interview?

They only verify information on your application during interview, not prior to that. So, it is assumed that they basically do nothing, but some people still have to wait 1-2 years for an interview.

So, if BCIS basically does nothing between filing and interview, can we have the help of congressman to expedite the interview time?

I'm not sure the Congressperson would be much help. From what I can read in these posts, there are very few Congresspersons who even respond to the queries of their constituents. Those who do respond seem to only help the most critical of cases that have overstepped the boundaries of acceptable response time by the USCIS.

Since the long wait time between application and interview is standardized and expected, the Congressperson might just ask you to wait.
