I, US citizen, was divorced 4-years ago. I have been talking with a girl from India, for last 15-months, and want to get married to her. She has a kid, 10-years old.
We are not formally engaged yet, though we both have committed. Covid has made travel difficult and put a wrench in the plans. So, I am here, seeking advise as to what is the best way to move forward, ideally I would love to get her here quickly, and also be able to work soon after.
I have read that coming here on a tourist visa, and then getting married is an option. I do not know if she will get tourist visa or not. Her parents are a family friend of my aunt, and have known each other for over 50 years. But, I have heard that there might be issue later as USCIS can say that we had plans to get married, and thus cause headache later.
If I get married in India, and then file the paperwork, how long does it take to get them here? Any way to hasten the process? Or, getting engaged, and then coming here as a fiancé, after getting tourist visa and then get married here? Or, is there a category for fiance visa or something?
Finally, is it possible to get engaged or married online (zoom) and then file the paperwork based on marriage? Of course, we will get the marriage certificate from India.
Or, any other option that is easier, if there is a thing like that for immigration
, or gets them here quickly?
