Benefit of PIO card?

After the oath is over one applies for us passport and then sends Indian passport back for cancellation right? Then photo copy of the cancelled passport should be sent with the PIO card application.

I am wondering if should I spend 310$ on a PIO card now or wait to get it later? Please advise.

I plan to stay less than 30 days each visit when I travel to India and do not plan on buying any property there now but might do it at the time of retirement (15 years later).

You are better off just getting a 10 year multiple entry tourist visa to India. PIO card is not worth the money (even after they reduced it to $300 from $1000) unless you need to use NRI quotas in education or buy property.
Soon the regulations for dual citizenship will come out and it is better to apply for that.

Soon = Before you retire or in 20 years whichever is LATER [according to the Indian Govt. Beaurocracy dept.'s thesarus I have here :-)]

With the new govt in India, i doubt if things will move fast. But for now, I'd just go with a multiple entry visa. PIO card is not worth it unless you have specific needs
