Being extra careful

Hi guys,

I am fortunately not in any trouble with US immigration services, however I enjoy being extra careful with regard to matters such as this :P The thing is, I have been to the US for personal reasons a number of times in the past year. I just recently returned from there once again a couple of weeks ago. However, I don't think I will be returning for perhaps another year or two.

I visit under the VWP/ESTA system each time, and have never had any problems. I'm always completely honest with the officials and they have each time been satisfied.

I think that perhaps I would like to someday live permanently there through the legal routes and I now just want to make sure that my exit has been recorded properly.

Question 1: If I say, check my ESTA status after my previous 90 days are up (they are not up yet, but I have returned home before the limit) and I receive authorization to go again, can I safely take this to mean that my exit was recorded properly? Or might this not show up on the ESTA authorization?

Question 2: I am in the habit of recording everything I do in the US, and anything I do in my home country so that I have a wealth of evidence always that I'm playing by the rules (bank statements, pay slips, boarding cards etc etc ). If I ever did find myself wrongly accused of this, how reasonable is US immigration in accepting proof like this?

This might seem strange, but this happened to a friend of a friend, who I am not in a position to contact about it.

Thanks
