becoming an American Citizen if you have an E2 visa

Can anyone tell me if you can apply for naturalization to become an American
Citizen if you have a E2 visa. One of the qualifications is to live here 5 years as a permanent resident but a E2 visa is a temporary visa. We will have live here 5 years and would like to become a citizen. Can anyone help

You need to become a permanent resident first before becoming a citizen and i do not think an E2 is a dual intent visa like H-1 however if you can adjust your status from E2 to Permanent Resident you will have 4 years and 9 months wait before you can apply for citizenship. You cannot just reside on a visa in the US and then after 5 years apply for citizenship. Your course if it is allowed would be E2 -> Permanent Resident (for 4 years and 9 months) -> Apply for Citizenship (1 + years) -> U.S. Citizen
