Becoming a shareholder in my employer's consulting company

My employer is a private consulting company with a Corporation business structure. Shareholders are the owners of a Corporation.

I am an employee of this company , is it possible for me to own shares in this company and share in the distribution of profits by being a shareholder and employee at the same time? My H1 is sponsored by this company and I will still be working for them in my rightful capacity, but I will also be an investor in this company. Basically I will be working and earning a salary as an employee, in addition to owning a part of the company by being a shareholder and receiving dividends from my share of stocks from company profits.

Thanks for the reply. My GC is being processed through them currently. I wanted to own more than 5% of the company, how do I go about getting an additional affidavit of support? what is this for ?
