Washington (AP) - Two immigration law firms, two lawyers and their legal assistants have been charged with helping clients forge documents for their green cards.

The clients paid up to $22,000 in fees for the forged documents, said Special Agent-in-Charge Cynthia O'Connell, who leads Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations in Baltimore.

The indictment charges the Law Offices of I. Jay Fredman in Washington, Irwin Jay Fredman, 72, of Bethesda, and his legal assistant Elnur Veliev, 21, of Silver Spring. It also charges Sergei Danilov and Associates in Washington, Sergei Danilov, 44, of McLean, Va., and his legal assistant Alp Canseven, 30, of Washington. Fredman, Veliev and Danilov were arrested Thursday.

A federal grand jury returned the 149-count indictment last month and it was unsealed Thursday.

They gave false work histories for the applicants and in some cases forged the signatures of business owners, O'Connell said. They gave names of Maryland businesses, real and fictitious, as sponsors for their clients and gave the names of businesses that were sponsoring other immigrants, she said.

"You'd think that they would be interested in the integrity of system," O'Connell said. "They're taking advantage of that."

Investigators are aware of more than 170 fraudulent applications, she said. It appears that most clients knew they were getting forged documents, O'Connell said.

The clients who are working with investigators won't be deported, O'Connell said. Unless they have other ties to the United States, other clients will have to be go before a judge to see if they can stay in the country, she said.

Danilov, a Russian national, and Veliev, an Azerbaijan national, are permanent U.S. residents, but could be deported if convicted. Fredman and Canseven are citizens.

They face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.

they deserve more than 10 yrs :D if they knew what they were doing . can u imagine if u would have asylum case with 1 of those lawyers who do not care about your case and steal your money . i would be happy if they would do dirty jobs in US jails and pay back all money to their clients :) it would help them to understand how difficult to make clean money and pay their fees for some new immigrants in america . and and transfer those IDIOTs to Russianjail(Sybiria) because American jails are too cozy ,and luxury for those kind of animals. :)

With all due respect to the laws. The immigration laws in this country needs to be changed so that People don't go to the extremes to stay in this country.

Face the facts, Americans need new labor every year and I think anyone who can find a job should be able to come to U.S for work..like H1 visas..other visas should be made available for people like Janitors, cooks, road sweepers etc..

I mean a sex offender gets off in 1-2 years..Whats fair about that? The people that should be locked up are those that harm society..I am not saying thiese inviduuals shouldn't be punished but 10 years seem too much..

I agree. There are a lot of fraud marriages out there also. In this case they have to put in jail another million people just for that.

what do u suggest just to fine them :) ? they have to start to investigate all those DUMB immigration lawyers(Liers) who make money BY just submitting Immigration Forms and ripping of immigrants .
After 911 events they must do something otherwise it is gonna be disaster for a country.

Any gail in Russia is the worst place man can get (I think). To tell u the truth lots of lawyers are doing "illegal" things. That's the way the justice system built here (unfortunatlly).

fraud documents

I have friend who is a victim of a fraud by his attorney. The attorney field paper in 1991 saying the person is here long time ago, ( from 1986) only he came in 1990, and the victim was interviewd by the immigration officer and found out that the victim was here only 1 1/2 years ago. The victim was new to this country and he got afraid and left. Now he is here (came legally) and is waiting for his I-485 to be approved. He is scared to death, whether this incident will come up for the interview. Any input pls.

Thanks
Rainu

good news. people who filed false asylum claims will meet the same fate sooner or later.

USA2002 - are u seek or something?
I've seen u before assaulting one of the members that his case is fake...
Man - I feel bad for you. Relax... Get yourself some good psychiatrist or psychologist, or go to social worker and talk to him...

Hey- just occured to me- may be your asylum claim is fake and you have some phobia or mania about it? GOT YA GOT YA GOT YA

There are a lot of forums for invalids and mentally unstable underprivileged people in the internet - try to stick there - I'm sure you'll make a lot of friends.

Otherwise, enjoy your evening!

He is an asylee like us man, but he has seen many who just lie and I guess he is tired.
Most of us out here are genuine asylum seekers who have really suffered.I got stabbed twice in my homeland for things I had no control over.

All these arrested lawyers do is damage us more because they slow down the process.
They won't get 10 years in prison though...much less than that.

I hear you Kalvar

I hear you kalvar. I beleive its an absolute privelege for us to have a protection from this great country. I also think these crooked lawyers did everybody a lot of harm, and they abuse the system.

But with regards to usa2002 - I saw him in a different thread abusing other members. One guy asked something about renewing National Passport because he wanted to travel to the country which doesn't accept RTD- usa2002 jumped in and called him fake asylee...

Listen, we all went through a lot in what used to be our "home" countries, so why assault other members - as you said JUST LIKE US? I don't assault anyone on this forum regardless what I think about him, and I'm sure you don't either. So with re to usa2002 why use these forum to assault people who already suffered enough? Let him go elsewhere and post his brilliant comments there...

Hi! Guys,
I am little bit confused how NSC is proccessing GC for Asylees. Right now on their status update, they claim to be proccessing cases filed on June 2000, but I have seen many people whose case was filed in sept. Nove. whose cases where approved three months ago. Any ideas on what these dates mean.
Here is my situation:
ND July 2001
Bio sept. 14
Last update sept. 16
no approval
any thoughts? thanks

True brother.Plus the nature of this forum is to share info on these problems we have.We are not here to talk about gossip magazines or high perfomance cars.
Bottom line is we are people without a country....and if USA02 thinks that renewing that meaningless paper called NP makes one a fake aylee then chances are HE is a lying.
