basic q abuout FP and name check, NIW 2004

Anyone could explain what is the relationship between FP and NC? I got a FP notice for 08/05/2005. How could I know when name check will be started? Should I get a name check notice? Following is my case details. Thanks

FP and Name check

FP and Name Check are two completely different processes that have nothing to do with eachother. However both have to be cleared before the 485 is approved. The FP process is straight forward. FP notices are sent to the applicant and they are requested to show up at the local FP office on a particular day. The applicant shows up at the office on that day and the FP is taken. Once the FP is taken it is then transmitted to the FBI where they run them through their database. Most FPs come up negative with any matches and the FBI forwards the results to USCIS the same day.

The Name Check process is another beast altogether. I am not quite sure exactly when or how this is initiated. I have heard that as soon as a 485 application is filed a Name Check request is sent from USCIS to the FBI. Once the FBI receives the request they run the name through some databases and if they do not find any matches they clear the name and inform USCIS. The problem with the Name Check process is that the applicant never knows the status. There are no notices in this process and that is why it has become a nightmare for quite a few people. Not to scare you but there have been instances where a name check was never initiated by the USCIS. Other cases involve the FBI not replying to a name check in a timely manner. There is no transparency in this process and hence it is one of the worst parts of this process. The only way to find out about the Name Check process is to email the FBI or through a Congressional Inquiry.
