Hi I have B1/B2 10 year multiple entry visa. I want to know how can I open a US bank account. I am resident of India.

Thanks,
Amit

You would probably need SSN or ITN no to get a bank account here in the US

The B visa is a sponsored visa by your company/relatives... I dont think you can get either SSN/ITN on a B visa... not sure about this....can someone on this forum input his/her views

regards

Bank Account.

I am sure I won't be given any SSN or ITN number, but is there any chance if I can open a bank account. Basically I want to do Internet Banking. Thats it..

Please reply.

You can get either a SSN or a ITIN. From the ssa.gov website:
If you are not authorized to work in the U.S., we can issue you a Social Security card if you are lawfully here and need the number for a valid nonwork reason.

It's probably easier to get a ITIN from the IRS though. Since you only need it for tax purposes, the Social Security office will likely tell you to get a ITIN.

Otherwise, you will not be allowed to open a bank account unless you have a SSN or an ITIN. The reason is so that you will be forced to pays taxes on any interest/income.
