My case got transferred to Baltimore on Apr 27th. When I called the number 1-800-375-5283(Got from AVM), they say it will take 14 months from the date the case transferred. Is it true? Does anybody tried to find out?
Thanks in advance for any info.

My PD is 07/02/99
RD:08/20/2000
ND 09/20/2000
Case transferred on 04/27/2001.
I want to know whether the information I got is correct or not. Because another 14 months wait is a long wait.

I just got back from the Baltimore office, where the officers told me that my case was not yet in their system, and most likely it would take 4-5 months to hear from them. I think you should not believe the 14 months, it is rather the standard I-485 processing time in Baltimore from the initial filing to the adjudication.

Normally local INS takes into account the time taken by VSC to transfer your case. So it would be 14 months from your ND.

Hello Macika,
That will be great if we can hear from them in another 4,5 months. But did they say that or you are just guessing it? Did you ask them how long will it take to hear from them for these kind of cases?
Sorry, too many questions. Please reply to this.
Appreciate your response.
Thanks

Gurus, can you tell me, why the cases are transfered to other offices and which bases these offices are chosen. For example if your case is transferred to Baltimore, is it your place of work/residence.

qba,
The INS select somes cases (hope randomly to ensure the quality) and transfers to the INS office located close to the residence where the applicant live. We have seen many cases transferred to Baltimore INS for the people who live close to Baltimore. There is no reason why any specific case got transferred to Local INS.
Hope this helps you.

Karri, Thanks a lot for your answer.
An other question with reference to transfer, do they dig into further to your documents.

karri,
They said it takes 1-2 months for the case to appear in their system and 2-3 months from that date to the interview date. This is just the general trend and of course for a particular case it may take less or more. I also asked whether there will be an interview at all (there are at least two different transfer notices and one of them does and the other one does not mention interview); they were not sure about that. But remember that I only got to talk to the officers who take the applications and provide case status, they are not the ones who make decisions or schedule appointments.
BTW my lawyer also said that one is called for an interview ~3 months after Baltimore takes over the case from Vermont. Let\'s wait and see what happens.

I am also in the same boat..My case has been transferred to Baltimore office in March 2001..my ND Oct 8 99. I have since changed my address from Silver Spring to Fairfax VA..Should I give change of address? will they transfer again to VA INS and will this cause furhter delay? Will the post office forward mails in time if I do not give change of address? How long do they give to appear for the interview from date of hearing from them? Thanks for response..

I agree with Macika. Based on the trend (at least here),
it takes about 2-3 months to get actual interview. If lucky,
you get approval immediately after the interview. I got
a friend who got interviewed in Baltimore only after 2 mos
(I said 6 wks before, sorry) and received approval immediately
after 10 min of interview!

My case was also transferred to Baltimore last April 27.
My ND is 10/12/00 and FP is 12/26/00. I also live near Baltimore.

I have seen the cases for persons who live in Maryland, Philadelphia and NJ are getting transferred more than any other region. This may be because these service centers process reasonably in good time or may be any other rule that VSC follows. or May be in this site only these people check and post their messages.

gch2001,
I received (personally) a notice of transfer from INS stating that
preliminary processing of my application is done and thus my paper
is being transferred to Baltimore who will contact me later for
an interview...

I also live near Baltimore. My brother-in-law lives near
Arlington, Virginia and has ND 11/00 and FP done in 02/01.
He has not received any transfer notice (yet?).

Keep you posted.
