Baltimore Interview: Are you getting your passport stamped at the spot

I heard that in some offices, after interview
they are not giving visa number at the spot.
They have to wait for months after interview
to get a visa. Is it true in Baltimore case
also? What about to them whose EAD expires
within days after the interview? Any thoughts guys.
