Updated 05/01/01: Fate of AC 21 Regulation
As people know, the new master of the White House ordered freeze of enactment of new regulations pending review by the new Administration and new heads of agencies. The INS initially announced that the regulation would be released in March 2001. Now March is long gone and even April is gone with no actions. When the Acting Commissioner was appointed, there was a hope that his review of the already-drafted-proposed-regulation be released soon. Now, a new permanent Commissioner of the INS is expected to be nominated by the President. However, the name of recently announced nominee has yet to be sent to the Congress by the White House. It is unclear, at this time, how the nomination of INS Commissioner will affect release of the long-awaited AC 21 regulation. It is hoped that the draft regulation does not have to await appointment of the Commissioner and his review. Let\'s cross our fingers!
