Background Checks being waived temporarily ?

Just saw this ticker on TV (CNN) and decided to check it out on the net:

Some criticism here:
http://www.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/greencards02112008-CR.html

The articles each have some interesting spin on the numbers (applicants in the background check lane).

If true, this could be some reason to cheer - I was told my security check is still pending a year and a half ago - wish the dates were current ........

Background checks are not waived, GCs will be issued while the background checks or name checks are being performed.

True enough - however the point is if these checks are being done on the governments time, I think I would agree - since I can move on with my life and decide what I have to do that is best for me and my family.

The government can take all the time it needs - 5 years, 10 years - whatever, I have not done anything wrong and I have no reason to be afraid. I, however, need to move on with my life.

It would bring much needed relief (and happier faces), IMO.

Also, if after the green card, then perhaps the agencies will be hard pressed to move the checks at a higher priority than the current situation - which is "seemingly" no priority at all.

Of course, they conveniently forget to mention that they still have to pass the other two security checks before getting the green card, and that the applicants are already here legally in the US and are allowed to stay and work while they wait.

I agree - also the fact that creating backlogs - creates a greater risk of people who would otherwise be rejected (criminal, unsatisfactory applicant etc.) also to slip through the cracks in the system and continue staying here and obtain employment and other benefits - simply because the agencies are deluged with more and more work as time goes by.

They need to come up with a better system for this name checking. If the government takes too long to sort this out for an applicant (even after they recieve their GC), that would affect their ability to apply for citizenship later and the next thing we know there will be a backlog to extend the GCs beyond 10 years.

But anyhow, for the time being, citizenship application concerns will have to sit on the bench (at least for me) as I am anxiously waiting for the GC to arrive first, just like many others.

Stoned!
