Background Check on my I-485

For my status enquiry, I received a mail and it said my case is pending because of background check. Is the background check same as name check as sometime back I was told that my name check is completed. I don't know what the heck is going? Can somebody shed some light if background check is the same as name check or not. If it is different then how much time does it take for it to complete.

It is the same as name check.CIS has different names for the FBI name check.Background check, security checks etc.

It was same or so everybody thought.
I was informed that My "Back ground " was clear. Now I recive a letter which states certain Background and security checks are still pending.
So I am not sure If I can safely say that name Check and Back ground and Security check are the same thing
