Background check delays & contacting congressmen???

It is clearly stated:

Because each customer agency determines which name checks are expedited, contacting Congressional representatives, the FBI's Office of Congressional Affairs, or the NNCP will only further tie up vital resources and will not contribute to the expediting of a name check.

I am really beginning to doubt the stories of congressmen/first lady pushing the fbi to get namechecks done. If anything it would only further delay the process and put you in a position to file mandamus/lawsuit.

well, there is a pile of cases.
and officer rarely looks through it.
When the congressmen asks about status of NC, then somebody opens the case and if all data in, then it can trigger clearance

Writing to congressmen does work - sometimes. See my spreadsheet - a very large proportion of those who got cleared wrote to congressmen to expedite namecheck.

I think expedite requests/WoMs speed up cases for a few lucky ones, at the expense of lot of other people who did not/cannot do anything but wait.

Any news about name checks!!!!

My daughter's name check is pending for about 18 months now. She just turned 14 when we went for our GC interview in Oct 2005. We got our GC, but she had to start the security check process!!!! it is so frustrating.!!!! now if we travel outside US we have to leave her here. She cannot travel even with AP because of i245 issues. They say only less then 1% of cases are pending more then 6 months. I think this is BS!!!!! We wrote to congressman. Every month or so we get letter from him stating that he contacted FBI but no new information is available. So contacting him seems to have no effect what so ever. Now that Mandamus seems useless I don't know what else can we do. How can be even sure that her file is not lost????
Anyone have any new information?

I think its merely a coincidence that some people had their name checks cleared this way.. may be their cases were pending long enough.
I dont think FBI per se is obliged to any request from anyone. Infact it is stated that congremman inquiries can DELAY the process??

However I do think that mandamus helped lots of people in prior years. Is it still useful??

USCIS is fighting back WoM cases. There's a thread in the citizenship forums - see all the pain even GC holders are going through for citizenship when they file WoM.

My point is that until last year lots of people got approvals because of mandamus. Now that the mandamus is not there, what if the congressmen inquiry actually delays one's name check?

Since there is no mandamus to file, the FBI wouldnt care about the continuing delay and would just send you a letter saying its in process. Because of no mandamus, you cant piss them off anymore. In previous years they got nc done only because they wanted to avoid mandamus/lawsuits.

I hope you get my point..
