I was always under the impression that Name check/back ground check is just a check to see if you are not a security threat to USA.
My case has been stuck in Name check since 2003.
recently I came in the knowledge that US embassy has contacted my previous Emplyores in India for verification
Some even as old as 15 years old. That was just when I started working.
Anyways I am happy in a way that atleast now I KNOW that they working on my case. I m am hopeful that my back ground check will be complete soon.
hopefully the date will progress too so I will be Current.

That is unbelievable, any particular reason you can think of

was this before 140 or after 140 approval, as once the 140 is approved, it is about 485 strictly personal

Oh my 140 was approved along time ago. I have also appeared in the interview last year. So this is strictly for 485.

Al

the software companies can close in 2 years this is very common, say you took exp letter 15 years back and what way CIS can find on a closed company...that is why can you recall anything or your best guess which you think could have trigerred that check for you. surely they don't do this for everyone nor can they afford to. anything speciific in your interview.

Nothing specific the officer just told me that he was waiting for Back ground check and explained that why they do it. At that moment it seemed to me that he was trying to say that it is a security issue.
The way I look at it is that
a) this is a positive thing as once this gets cleared it will be hopefully on my file it should help( I hope ) when they do the security check for my Citizenship.
Second that maybe my name rang a bell and they want to make sure going back that far to see if the identity is my true identity.
Whic is in a way good as that mean it makes things safer for all of us living here in USA if they do that for all people applying to live here permanently.
So as long it get over soon I am ok with it.

Relax.

Most background check is outsourced, and the agencies do this sort of thing. But they know that companies can close. The emphasis is not on checking every detail for accuracy, but to see if any red flags turn up.

If you got screened for employment by an American multinational earlier, you probably know what I mean. Employers outsource to the same agencies. :P

I would understand doing security related checks(name, background...whatever)
BEFORE they allow people inside this country. Doing it when applying for GC, when the person is already here, looks little odd to me. A person with the intention to harm the country won't apply for GC, wait patiently and carry out what he/she set out to do after becoming permanent resident. This is just plain absurd, meaningless.

My sentiments Exactly.
But I am taking positives oput of this.Atleast there seems to be someone working on the case. And I am sure it will result in the ending of this wait for me , provided my PD becomes current.

Hi, Al_aos,

Would you please kindly answer a question from me? I was wondering how USCIS got to know your old employer as far back as 15 years ago? As far as I remember, you only need to provide your employment history in the past 5 years in a form called G325A which you filed together with your 485. Where in the application did you mention your 15-years-ago employer? I mean how could USCIS know your 15-years-ago employer? Thank you very much for your clarification.
