Back Ground Check.. calrification

For those who have searched this before:

When the INS says still waiting on Name Check to come back does this mean:

1- has gone to the FBI and the name check is Pending due to problems, confusion etc?
2- has gone to the FBI and waiting on line to be processes?


Also, when called the FBI they say we are working on a special proj to clear names from 02/03 or something, if this is true how come some people get cleared from 05?

in most cases long wait for name check is a result of "ident" or "hit" during automated check. if automated check didn't get any of those, it can be completed very fast (days or even hours). "ident" or "hit" requre manual check by fbi officer. the line for automated check supposed to be quite short, the case may wait for processing a few days, weeks, may be in rare instances a month or two. the line for manual check of the cases with "hits" and "idents" in very long (up to 3.5 years currently)
when fbi is talking about clearing names from 2002/03, they mean the backlog of cases for manual check. many cases don't require manual check and are cleared in few days
