B2 Visa Extension- What to do?

Dear all,

I am a Romanian citizen living in Canada since 2008. ( Completing my PhD and working as a Lecturer at the University )

Currently I am visiting my partner (on a B2 Visa) and have applied to extend my stay online. I have visited him in May and June and returned to Canada for July and August ( I had to lecture). When visiting late August again (the 23rd) the officer granted me only a stay until October 24th. ( I planned to visit until January 6th as the course I am teaching starts only mid- January in Canada)

Now I am worried that I might not receive a reply back from USCIS ELIS before October 24th and I am afraid to risk and stay longer in case the Extension of my stay will be denied. (resulting in a VOID VISA)

I have some questions.

1. I might have to attend a conference in Brussels late October. IF I leave the US before October 24th do I have to withdraw my application for extending my stay ? I have read in one of the threads that leaving the US while an application for extension is pending will results in a denied extension.

2. If leaving the US does not result in a denied extension can I leave to Europe and return once the extension is granted?

3. I would not want to risk staying past October 24th and USCIS denying to extend my stay thus resulting in a VOID visa.

4. Do you have experiences where they got back to you in 1.5 months or less? It kinda feels like they would be setting you up for failure. You apply to extend your stay, they do not get back to you, you overstay because of this reason and your visa becomes void. Very bizarre.

5. Should I just withdraw my application, leave for a month for Europe and return to spend the holidays here? Is that risky?

Thank you!
Andrea
