B2 extension timeline!

anyone who got their B2 extension approved from vermont service centre, please post your timeline. my timeline is:

receipt notice: 21 november 2003
B2 expires: Jan 6 2004
current status: waiting eagerly to hear something!

Could you share the reason given for extention application? What other supporting docs will be needed?
 
I have a question on B-2 extension.
1) If extension not granted, visitor will leave with in a week. What happens to multiple entry visa? Is that canceled automatically because of extension not granted?
