B1 visa for Seminar

I entered US with a B1 to attend a seminar at an university. For some genuine reason, I will not be able to attend the seminar now - what does that mean to my chances of rentry into USA on either B1 or F1 or H1?

Thanks all

I am already in USA. I entered couple of days ago.

The Annotation on my visa says "attending seminar for 8 days" and says B1/B2. My I-94 says B1 and is valid for 2 more months.

However, I will not be able to attend the seminar. Will that be considered illegal? BCIS might think that I entered this country with the intent of attending the seminar and I did not attend!! So they could question my intent and next time if I try to enter with H1 or F1, they might say I misrepresented my intent last time!!

Thanks all

JoeF - thanks a lot for the quick responses. They were very helpful.

First of all, this is a self sponsored seminar. So this is my money to loose. Due to some health reasons and some unforeseen commitments, I will not be able to attend this seminar. However, if I cancel this in time, I will get back most of my money.

Couple of things:
- you seem to suggest changing status is illegal; not that I am planning on doing that - but if someone offers me a job while I am on B1 and if I apply for H1 - is that illegal?

- there is a chance that I will renter US next year with a J1 or a H1 visa. At that point of time, is there a chance that BCIS will look at my previous intent for entry and "somehow" figure out that my intention was misrepresented and be hesitant to grant me the new visa? I realize that not attending seminar is not "illegal" - but can it cause me future grief - Hope you understand my view point. Besides I hear that recently BCIS is doing lot of tracking. Is there a chance that BCIS will track whether I attended this seminar or not given that it is in my annotation? call me paranoid - but I just want to be safe than sorry - I guess!!
