I have a 1o year multiple entry B1 B2 visa and was working on a yacht in Florida and technically overstayed my I-94 by two weeks. My captain at the time insisted that I shouldnt worry and that the next time I enter the states to state that I departed before my visa expired. I still have my I 94 card and was wondering is there anyway to check if my visa is still valid? If I have to apply for another B1 B2 visa is it necessary for an employment letter to get the visa?

Every time that you leave the US you must surrender your I-94.
Probably I really don't understand your entire case but you are inside or outside the US right now?
You can check with your consulate is your visa is still valid.
And if you need to apply again for a B1/B2 you must get some documents like an employment letter and others from your home country that demostrate that you will go back.

There are slight differences with being on a sea vessel and entering the US by foot or air, because sea vessels can enter and leave US territory.
But yes, you MUST make sure that you surrender your I-94 whenever you leave the US! I didnt when I first started coming over, and it caused endless problems because they had no evidence of my departure. Luckily I kept my boarding passes in my passport so I had some kind of proof but it was always assumed that I'd stayed for the maximum duration of my visa rather than just the 2 weeks that I did.
