Hi friends,
To share with you all, the happy news that my parents recevied their 10yr multiple entry visa after interview at Delhi on Jun 22, 2004.
Details:
Father: 60+ retired from PWD.
Mom: 50+ working as teacher in a pvt school.
We sent all the documents as listed in atlantabhopali's thread except for I-485, ead ap's
They acrried all relevant property/retirement/employment/bank/afidavits etc with them.
we made sure they carried an extra copy with all the originals, just in case and also left a copy at home in case the packet got lost or something.
we did take the appointment about a month back.
Experience at embassy:
Appt at 8:15, but they got there by 7:15, there was an informal line and at about 7:45 a new line was formed by the embassy people. They called of immigration applicans first thenthe rest by appt. First the 8:00 ones went in. then my parents who were 3/4 in their group. Inside both drafts for both of them were kept along with passports and DS-156 and DS-157. They did not go through the papers at that time. There were announcements being made about what to do and how to arrange the papers etc.
They also submitted the 800 for TTS courier in the beginning, they carried cash for that.
After about 20-30 mts they were called at the window.
Q's asked
1. Son's company
2. how long has he been there
3. When did u retire
4. Where do you teach,(mom)
5. What subject.
6. What in that subject.
7.any other kids beside this son
8. One question was about H1, he missed the extension recept, which was in his hand. mom pointed towards it .
Then consulted with another officer. Came back told them they got the visa and gave then receipts to take to courier counter.
There they were given an envelop, where they filled the address in and pasted the two receipts on. Got some reciepts with stamp on and were told they will get passport within a week
Well they did get it in 2 days flat so taht was good.
i had asked them to make sure that all the details on the passport were correct. eg name, visa category etc. everything was fine.
I guess the next step : to get them tkts and spend some time with them.
Yahooooooooo!!!!
PS. we could have tried drop box, but since mom <60 we did not want to take a chance, although she can handle herself. Its always btter for parents to go together.
They did not look at any document but its always good to carry them, i guess just knowing that everything is organised and ready, gives you the confidence in the interview and helps. Another thing try not to make urgent appointments. Somehow it seems that they might be doing some prelim work if the appt is as far as 1 month in future, makes life easier.
