My wife, who is currently on H4 (485 pending) recently received her EAD card. She does not want a job as yet, she just wants to get a SSN based on the EAD.
My questions is: Will she loose her H4 status just by using EAD to get SSN? (I am sure H4 will be invalid if she starts working using the EAD)
Thank you in advance.

Not true. Getting a social security number doesn't change her status from H4. She is on H4 until she gets a job based on her EAD card. SSN doesn't change her status.

Yoda, your wife won't lose H4 status by getting an SSN based on her EAD. People do this ALL THE TIME. Nagakoosu is just plain wrong on this. However, you have to decide who to believe.

What i understand is, once you get your SSN, your CURRENT status will be recorded as EAD and will be recorded as part of the SSN.

If your wife had an ITIN with H4 information it, once you receive SSN, that will no longer be valid.

But not sure, you might want to check with an attorney or someone.

Hey, may be i am wrong, once you receive EAD why do you care about H4, go and get AP, that will be good, and be happy.

Or you want to spend money for EAD and not using, doesn;t make any sense. MY case, my H4 was expired, but who cares or spend money on getting H4 extension.
