B-2 visa rule clarification

How is the 6 month rule for B-2 visitor visa calculated upon entry to USA?
- If you stay 3 month during first entry, then can you reenter after 3 months, and stay for another 3 months? Totally still 6 month but not from the first entry date.
- In the above situation, can you reenter after 2 months (instead of 3), and stay another 3 months? Again totalling 6 months.

Would appreciate clarification.

You can stay for as long as you were admitted for on your I-94. By default, B2 is admitted for 6 months each time. There is no rule that they can't admit you for 6 months again after you've been out for only 3 months. If you are admitted for 6 months on the second stay, you can stay for 6 months. Of course, they could admit you for a shorter period, including 3 months or even 1 month. There is no rule that how long they admit you for has anything to do with how long you stayed the previous time or how long you've been away.
