Awkward - filing for name change and just lost current GC... help!

Hello,

I've got an awkward situation and wondering if anyone can help me out. I sent off my I 90 to change some biographical info on my GC (non conditional) and this morning lost my wallet with my GC in it.

I've registered the loss with the police about few hours ago but what on earth do I do now? Technically I have 2 things to do with my I 90 filing, both changing a piece of biographical data AND replacing the darn thing. Does that mean I need to file & pay twice?

Any input would be appreciated!

Make an Infopass appointment, take the police report and the I-90 receipt and a copy of the GC and explain the situation. Also ask them to stamp your passport.

Thanks for the advice Mr. J... I'll call for an Infopass appointment now. I don't unfortunately have any copies of my GC (gave my last one to my job and didn't get new ones because I just wasn't thinking) but I have my letter with the A# on it.

Has anyone had this situation before? Did you have to pay the replacement fee's twice? Presumably if I'm already getting my card replaced due to a biographic change, I shouldn't right?
 
You shouldn't have to pay twice; the corrected GC will also be the replacement for lost one. But your problem is that you're supposed to hand in the mistaken GC if you're filing for a correction. Now you can't hand it in because you lost it so you'll need the police report to back up your explanation and they'll have to note the loss in the system.

Always keep a copy somewhere. Soft copy on internet in some secure location (email, evault) is better.
