Guys,

My GC details: RD 11/5/01, ND 12/5/01, FP 3/30/02, AD -waiting..
I don't have an EAD ( didn't apply for one , have only AP ).
Now my H1B expires in Jan 2003( finishing my 6 year quota). Wondering if I should apply for EAD or for a H1B 7th yr extension? My lawyer says I should apply for H1B 7th yr extension and forget about EAD? some of my friends say EAD is better.
Gurus, pl letme know the right thing to do...

Thanks!!

:D
As per my attorney, having EAD is always advantages. You can switch jobs easily or take some part time job and you will have some flexibility in job choices. If your company pays for it go for both. All the best.

ead/h1

EAD has benefits of job portability. many employers
prefer with ead in case a job change is required during 485 after
180 days. And wasy to get. If you have 485
receipt apply it yourselves. It is very easy to fill and apply.
H1 may need a lawyer. The reason why people tend to have H1
on the other other hand is, if 485 gets denied (by any chance)
ead becomes invalid but you can continue on H1. But I personally
think chance of this is rare for law abiding people.

I personally opted for ead rather than h1.

Pkala,

Thanks for the info. Regarding EAD, I was under the impression that only EAD renewal could be done by ourselves. Now I understand that we can apply ourselves even the new EAD. Thanks, that was really useful, also is there any risk if done by ourselves..
