Awaiting Background Check...

I went down to Indianapolis for my fingerprinting in mid-December 2003, went through a sucessful AOS interview in early-June...but I am still waiting for my background check to be completed - at least, that is what the USCIS are telling me. It is seven months and counting since the fingerprinting now. I have been in touch with my local senator's office recently, and they have promised to find out what is causing the delay.

Any other information about what I can do - apart from merely wait - would be greatly appreciated.

Another point is that in December I wrote to New Scotland Yard requesting a police check. I received a clean police report back from them within one month, which I passed onto the USCIS at my interview in June. It doesn't seem to have done anything to speed up this process, though.

In just under three months my work permit is up for renewal. The USCIS have told me that if I haven't been approved within 30 days of my work permit renewal date, to apply for a new one. You know the scenario, of course: if I get approved before - or even after - the new work permit kicks in, I will lose all of the $175 fee that I will probably never use.
