Australian Resident applying for H1B

Hello,

I am Indian as well as Australian Permanent Resident, I have a job offer from an US based company who are willing to sponsor my work visa, I havent received my papers for stamping yet but its due anytime now. I recently found that if i stay back in Australia until next september(2006) i would be able to obtain my australian citizenship and am planning to obtain it.

Assuming i get my visa stamped next month(October), will the visa be valid until next October or how long will the visa be valid from the date of stamping?

My question is, is it possible to get my visa stamping done now and wait until next september, obtain my citizenship and then come to the US(will my work permit be valid till then?)

Any suggestions/thoughts?
 
My question was already answered in the FAQ, but that was in 2001..does this hold good even now?

" Q25 I got my H1-B visa stamped in the month of October 2001 from US consulate in Delhi and which is valid till January 2004. I have not yet travelled on that visa, so I am wondering whether the same is still valid, as someone told me that if you don't travel on a visa for 6 months after stamping, it gets expired.
A25 There is no 6 months limit, but the job must still be open. "
