Thanks God. It is finally my turn.

My passport will be expired 3/29/2005. Can I get stamped or I have to renew my passport first?

Congratulations. Happy to see another Aug '02 filer being approved.

I believe the temporary I-551 permanent residence stamp is valid for one year and it makes sense that your passport also be valid for atleast one year from that point on.

Passports can be renewed up to one year prior to their expiration. My suggestion to you is to renew your passport and then go for the I-551 stamp. I did the same. Probably half a day's work if you live close to Indian consulate (assuming you are indian national). Even if you live further away, getting it done by mail takes less than a week.

Thanks, nkaveti. I am going to renew my passport first by mail. Hopefully,I won't wait too long. Do you know how long you will get card after you stamped?

I did my I-551 stamping this past friday. The lady there said I should receive actual cards in about 6 months. I do not know for sure what criteria is used when issuing these cards. At this point, I couldn't care less.

My passport has expired last month and I am going tomorrow to Indian Consulate for renewal. Please let me know what all documents need to be taken as it will help me to cross-check with my list as you have recently renewed your PP.

Needhelp1, I apologize if my statement led you to believe that I renewed my PP recently. I did this about 2 years ago (Nov 2002) even though my passport was valid until Aug 2003. And, I am not sure if my list then is essentially what they require now.

Don't need to apoligize Dear friend. Just go confused and thought that you renewed recently. I have got all the info from the website and thanks for your help.
