Hi! There,

Any buddy know any prominent ASYLUM attorneys in Washington DC area? Also, since I resides in PA and will be interviewed at the Arlington office, does my attorney have to be licensed to practice in both states or one of them (in this case, which one?) in order to represent me in front of the asylum officer?

Thank you all!!!

I don't know any attorneys in the DC area, but I do that INS cases are Federal cases, and therefore a lawyer in California could represent you for a case in New York, for example.

Depending on what type of case you have, I would try to find an attorney who has a client from a simmilar country, and has made the same argument before (if possible).

Do some creative research. You could call ALIA and asked to be refered, or contact organizations you think could be helpful.

Good luck.

In general, a lawyer in good standing in any state or territory within the Union is recognized by the INS. So you do not have to worry about a lawyer's bar affiliation per se. You should worry about the quality of the lawyer's past work which is the best predictor's of his performance in your case. Good luck.
