I am in philadelphia area. My company normally pay the fee to support employee\'s GC process. The legal department in my company normally hire outside lawyer to go through labor certificate, and they will take over the case at the adjustment of status stage. The fee charged by that lawyer for labor certificate+I140 runs between $6000 to $10000.

unfornately, my company will not pay the fee for me although they support me legally. And the legal dept tends to force me hire the same lawyer and pay the same fee by myself. I was thinking about this fee is too expensive, right? Any idea for average fee for Labor certificate? I plan to hire my own lawyer, any disadvantages?

Also, can you recommend lawyers for labor certificate expertise? Do you think the lawyer is very important for the LC process? I have an MS degree with a permanent job at a pharmaceutical company. Do you think labor certificate is better than national interest waiver? Or do you think apply in both approaches can maximize my chance? Many Many thanks

Cost is high; but there are advantages

The cost for the Labour and I-140 does appear to be a bit steep. But here my thoughts on your choices:

Choosing an in-house (or company selected) attorney offers some advantages:
- there\'s a relationship between the company and the firm. The firm probably has all company specific information availabe (financial statements, etc). Although, if you work for a major firm this may be less of an issue. But the point is that the relationship is there and any correspondence should flow smoothly with minimal intervention from you.

External Attorney:
- you\'ll have to make sure that your company is willing to work and provide any documentation required by the outside firm as quickly as possible. In some ways the INS is more efficient than the attorney. You really have to stay on top of your own case.

Do you others that have utilized the services of the company chosen attorneys. Are they efficient? Paying a little extra and getting expertise and proper preparation of the case is invaluable.

The cost of a typical lawyer in the NJ/NY area is:
I-140 - 800-1000
Labour - 1300-1600
485/Consular - ????

Not sure if you qualify for the waiver, although an attorney would best be able to answer that. I don\'t know your full qualifications (papers, letters of recommendation, etc) to give my 2cents on that.
