Hi Rahul, Bobbyz, Ratrat
I am interested in applying for DCF in New Delhi for my wife. At the time of application we would have been married for 2 years. Since you guys have done DCF can you let me know if DCF can be done by any US citizens or is it only for newly weds. (I personally dont think so). Also for Chennai Consulate can you pls. post your time line for DCF after filing at ND.
Thanks.

DCF can be done by anyone (newlyweds or not). Time line
Filed = End of Dec 04
Packet 3 = Early Jan
Packet 4 = Mid Jan
Interview = Mid Feb
Turnaround time = Under 2 months!!

DCF however is good only in very straightforward cases ie no complications (first marriage, traditional wedding etc). Read my DCF thread

More questions please

Thanks Rahul for your reply. I've some more:
I see you filed I130 from VSC (??) and then withdrew it from ND. Does filing I130 here at the Service center before leaving make / mar the chances of DCF getting approved. If this question doesnt come up can we not reveal it.

I130 via VSC was for a backup. Many if not most DCFers have pending I130s. Delhi embassy officials give handouts as to how to locate the nearest
postoffice and how to send a letter of cancellation

Thanks Rahul

Thanks a lot Rahul. It was very informative.
One suggestion though: Can you pls. make the DCF posts sticky. Though not many use it, it is a valuable thread like the name check one.

Also bobbyz/rarrat - ur 2 cents on this please. I guess bobby is in India right now !

I didn't update about my DCF stuff as I ran into a snag as my marriage wasn't totally religious so now I need different marriage certificate which is pain in the neck. Hope to file sometime in March now.

Otherwise DCF is pretty straight forward. There were 5 couple before us and it must have taken only 3-4 mins per couple. Total 20 couples in DElhi on the day we applied. All got through except us.

Here is some info:

You go there early as lines start by 7:30AM. There is separate line for USCIS, but guards only let 4 people in at a time. Then inside you sit on chairs in the corner before another guard comes, you sign his book, take a badge and he takes you to the side where USCIS office is.

Then you sit and wait again, we did for 1:45mins before any one showed up to take our papers. The US citizen's passport is taken before this step and you are called to the window. Make sure all paperwork in a specific order. They need only 2-3 marriage picture showing specific things (if Hindu Marriage) like holy fire, you sitting together and priest. Wish I had those. Then first question to your spouse about his/her name, is it first marriage, have you aplied in US? and then deposit $190 and you done.

Note:- You can take cellphones inside, you just have to depoist them at the main security checkpoint after you enter the embassy and they give you token to colelct it on way out.
