I had been interviewed in four weeks after I filed for asylum. This was in late 1999, though.

I kwow some people who filed in NC. It took less than 2 months
I know others in SC it took 6 months
I know people in GA. One took 2yrs. Yes two years ! The other took 3 years. I mean three years !
Conclusion: In the east coast. File in NC, VA, MD, Delaware, NJ or anywhere north.
